29. 7. – 26. 8. 2017 at the state castle Eisenberg (Jezeří)

Welcome to the sixth year of Eisenberg Music Summer, the festival presenting works from the golden age of castle Jezeří (Eisenberg) – the turn of the 19th century when it was a favourite residence of Joseph Franz Maxmilian Lobkowitz. This year, besides performances striving to capture the period style as much as possible ((scenic performance of a cantata by Ferdinand Paër, J. Haydn's string quartets, L. van Beethoven's Prometheus in the period transcription for string quartet, madrigals by C. Monteverdi), we offer also interpretations combining this specific style with an impetus of contemporary creators (transcription of Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice in connection with black theatre, a performance of Prometheus with projection of a painting in creation, a composition for period instruments written for this festival by Jiří Sycha).
Featuring these stage sketches shall correspond symbolically with the starting date of the castle theatre's renovation (that has been set for Spring 2017) and lead up to an opera season after completion of the restoration works. This year's festival also marks some music anniversaries: 230 years since the death of Christoph Willibald Gluck (his memorial plaque was unveiled within the festival in 2014) and 450 birth anniversary of Claudio Monteverdi. His madrigals shall resonate in various areas of the castle including the courtyard and complete the colorful picture connected with the music at Jezeří this year.
As is a tradition, the performers will play original instruments or their copies and in the period style. And as every year, too, you are invited to refreshment during the intervals and stroll in the castle garden. A transport from Prague with stops along the way will be again organized for those interested.
